 Our conclusion is that our current experience reflects a combination of Fourth Generation Warfare (4GW), Cold War strategic competition, overseas war and influence operations, and other related forms of modern conflict. We also recognize that today's environment has been influenced by decades of geopolitical competition, historical conflicts, policy decisions, technological change, and other events that continue to influence the present.

Understanding both the past and the present helps us better prepare for the challenges of the future. While the concept of Fourth Generation Warfare is discussed in military and academic literature, scholars and practitioners continue to debate its precise definition, scope, and application.
