July 28Th Day of Commemoration of the Great Upheaval
Better late than never. ✨
US Acadians, we lived just miles from our ancestral homeland, yet the word "Acadian" was never mentioned as part of who we were. We did not know; they didn't want us to. Our history and identity were absent from history books. We lost half of our population to the British Red Hand. The KKK and American secret societies targeted us relentlessly. We were punished for who we were, "I will not speak French." Now, we are still in the process of discovering our heritage, loving our roots more than ever, and reclaiming Acadia. 💙
