 Politics is often discussed from a partisan perspective, using logical fallacies, biased viewpoints, and arguments formed by the speaker’s point of view. In American and world politics, we are constantly sorting through thousands of cases on any given day.

During conversations, people often get derailed and go off on tangents. These are not formal debates, and speakers can become emotional, causing the conversation to be lost in emotion rather than focused on finding common ground.

This is why letter writing is advised, along with having mutually agreed-upon conversational subjects rather than having them chosen by just one speaker. The time must be shared, and the conversation should remain reasonable. The goal should be mediation.

However, if a political discussion becomes too polarized, sometimes it is best to let it go. Mediation can help societies tremendously, and it is probably something we need more of. It is also not in our best interests to engage with someone who is harmful, cruel, or abusive. It is okay to let go, and sometimes letting go is the most peaceful thing we can do.
