In the movie Forrest Gump, Lieutenant Dan Taylor experiences a significant shift in his perspective on faith and prayer after losing his legs in the Vietnam War. Initially, he expresses anger and resentment towards God for not allowing him to die in battle as his ancestors did, viewing it as a betrayal of his family's legacy. This leads to him rejecting traditional prayer and even cursing God. However, after surviving the war and later finding purpose and happiness with Forrest, Lieutenant Dan has a change of heart. 

• Initial Anger and Rejection of God: Lieutenant Dan believes God has failed him by not allowing him to die in battle, a fate he believes he deserved. 
• Rejection of Prayer: He initially rejects prayer, viewing it as futile and even mocking it when Forrest suggests it. 
• Finding Purpose and Happiness: Through his journey with Forrest, including their shrimp business, he eventually finds a sense of purpose and contentment. 
• Swimming in the Ocean: After thanking Forrest for saving his life, Lieutenant Dan jumps into the  water and swims, looking up to the sky, which can be interpreted as a  symbolic act of acceptance and possibly a form of prayer or connection with a higher power. 
• Change of Heart: This final scene suggests a shift in Lieutenant Dan's perspective, where he  moves from anger and resentment to a place of peace and acceptance.
